Tripura Sundari or Shodashi is the third of the Mahavidyas, a symbol of purity and wholesomeness. She is the most beautiful of the three worlds and hence the name Tripura Sundari. She is represented as a sixteen year old girl who is believed to personify sixteen types of desires. And her mantra consists of the same number of syllables.

Describing the Goddess’ form, she is said to be brighter than a thousand suns, and wears a crescent moon as a jewel on her head.

In Lalitha Sahasranamam, the Mother  is described as eternal, saffron-red in hue, having crown embedded with gems with Moon as an adornment over the head, three eyed, ever smiling, having high breasts, with hands holding a precious wine cup and red flowers, soft natured and peaceful, with Her red lotus feet rested on a gem-decked pedestal. She is holding in her four arms, her traditional symbols, the sugarcane bow, flower arrows, noose and goad.

Her body is well garlanded by numerous fine ornaments. Lalitha is also the representation of creation, preservation and destruction and considered as the image of sixteen modifications of desires. Usually she is found sitting on a lotus that is placed on a throne.
