Sanjeevani Plant 600x400

The magical plant Sanjeevani is of vital importance in the epic Ramayana. During the fierce war between Ravana’s son Indrajit and ram’s brother Lakshman, a dangerous arrow could have changed the course of war by killing Lakshman.

Lakshman was nearly killed by Indrajit during which despair hour Hanuman approached the Lankan Royal doctor Sushena for guidance. Sushena adviced Hanuman to fetch the four divine herbs from Dronagiri Hills which are mentioned as follows – “Mrutha Sanjeevani, Vishalyakarani, Sandhanakarani and Savarnyakarani.”

Among them Sanjeevani is described as the most powerful and magical herb which has the power to cure any disease and could even revive a dead person. Upon reaching Mount Sumeru, Hanuman was unable to identify the herb and decided to lift the entire mountain and brought it to the battlefield.
