Lalitha Jayanthi :

 

Lalitha Jayanti is celebrated on pournami (full moon day) in the month of Masik (January – February). In 2017 Lalitha Jayanthi falls  on February 10. This day is dedicated to Lalita Devi, a form of Shakti or Mother Goddess. Lalitha is associated with the Pancha Mahabhutas or five elements. Goddess Lalitha is believed to be the representation of the Panchabhuthas – earth, water, air, fire, and space.   Some regions of North Indian, people celebrate Lalitha Jayathi Day as a special ritual. It is an auspicious Day where people can pray and offer pujas and homams for mata Lalitha Devi.

Story and Significance of Lalitha Jayanti is as follows

According to Devi Purana Purana, Devi Sati attended the Yagya performed by her father, Daksh. Sati could not able to tolerate the behavior of her father (not inviting Shiva to the Yagya). So she jumped into the Yagya (Homam) conducted by Daksh. Lord Shiva could not handle the shock and lifted Sati’s body on his shoulders. Lord Shiva was wandering all around the world with the dead body (Sati). To get shiva out from his shock, Lord Vishnu used his Chakra to dissect Devi Sati’s body into 108 parts. Wherever the pieces of the Sati’s body fell on earth is considered as Shaktipeetha. Devi Sati came to existence as Lingdharini at the same place. She later came to be known as Devi Lalita Mata.

According to another legend, Devi Lalita came into existence when Pataal Lok was being ruined by Lord Brahma’s Chakra. Every devathas and saints were frightened with the action of Lord Brahma.The whole world started submerging into water. So saints and devas prayed Maa Lalita devi to save them with wholehearted. Devi Lalita then stooped destructive Chakra of Lord Brahma and saved the world.

Lalitha devi is the goddess in Mother kind by showering all her blesses on her devotees who worship her with dedication.
