Akshaya Tritiya

Why Wealth is an Important Factor on Akshaya Tritiya

The Sun And Moon Are Most Exalted On Akshaya Tritiya Day

Vedic contexts, Akshaya Tritiya has great significance. Any social services done, especially donations and ceremonies like puja and homa, on this day have long lasting effects. It also is propitious for starting new projects, performing marriages and purchasing expensive material wealth like gold, vehicles, land etc.

What Makes Wealth Such An Important Factor On Akshaya Tritiya?

As per Vedic astrological inputs, three lunar days or tithis are auspicious. The first tithi is that of bright half of chaitra month which is the Vedic New Year, the second is that of tenth day of bright half of Ashvina or Vijaya Dasami and the bright half of Vaishaka or Akshaya Tritiya. These are the full tithis and there’s a half tithi that falls on the bright half of Karthika and together they constitute best muhurtha time ever when the sun and moon are most exalted giving equal brightness all through the day.

It’s really astonishing to know that the day of Akshaya Tririya holds much significance unlike other days of the Vedic calendar.

This day is also called Parasuram Jayanthi because it was on this day that Parasuram, an avatar of Lord Vishnu was born.

Akshaya Tritiya: A day Kubera Got Control Of  Wealth

Lord Kubera, the treasurer of heavens, received his wealth and position as custodian of the same from Goddess Lakshmi on this day. Lakshmi Tantram says that even Kubera prays to the wealth goddess and her consort Lord Vishnu on Akshaya Tritiya.

In the magnum opus Mahabharata, Yudhishtra receives the Akshaya patra to serve the food for all the needy of his kingdom. That’s why even to this day people believe they get never ending wealth and other riches when they buy things on this day.

It is a day of fasting, worship and charity. Rice, clothing, ghee, sugar, vegetables etc are given away in charity. In some parts of India, Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped on this day.

Kings Worshipped Goddess Lakshmi On Akshaya Tritiya

In ancient days, kings performed yagya with gratitude and great devotion to Vaibhava Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity along with her consort Lord Vishnu so that his people or subjects remain happy and prosperous.

The goddess of food grain, Annapoorna Devi manifested herself on this day. It’s also a day when the Treta Yuga began and the very holy river of India, the Ganges, descended on earth from heaven.

So auspicious is this day that in recent history, Saint Adi Shankara recited the Kanakadhara Stotram when he asked a poor couple for food and received only a meagre gooseberry from them. When Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared before them, he asked for the boon of granting riches to the poor family. She agreed and showered blessings of golden gooseberries on them.

Sarva Siddhi Muhurat: The Best Time Of The Year

Akshaya Tritiya is also called Sarva Siddhi muhurat because one can perform any auspicious ceremonies like marriage, house warming etc on this day. Therefore buying of gold, precious gems, land, property and vehicles on this day is very favourable. If a person finds planetary positions unfavourable to schedule important events like marriages etc in any time of the year, he can just blindly organise it on this day as the day also brings longevity to the marital life. That’s the reason why many marriages are scheduled on this day.
