Varalakshmi Vrata is an auspicious festival celebrated to attain great boons of mighty goddess Lakshmi. The vrata is celebrated in Shravana month, generally in July or August. It precisely falls on Shukla Paksha or the Friday night before the Poornima or the day of the full moon in the Shravan month. The festival is celebrated with utmost prominence in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu.

Dos of Varalakshmi Vrata

 

  • Make sure you take a head bath before beginning the fast.

  • Observe fast till sunset to reap most of its benefits, and do not eat anything in between.

  • Make sure the footsteps of goddess Lakshmi are in the North-East direction or North or East direction during puja.

  • Begin the puja with Lord Vinayaka puja, then proceed with kalasa puja, Mahalakshmi Pooja, and ultimately aarti.

 

Dont’s of Varalakshmi Vrata

 

  • Pregnant women should abstain from performing the vrata after the 5th month of the pregnancy period.

  • Do not eat anything until sunset as it will affect the piousness of fast.

  • This vrata is only for married women. If unmarried women are performing it, they must do it under the guidance of an experienced woman to prevent any oversight.

  • Women menstruating should prevent celebrating the vrata. Instead, they must observe the Varalakshmi Vrata immediately next Friday.

  • An important rule to note on this vrata is that one must not follow it under any pressure, compulsion, or force, as this pious occasion requires unwavering faith and dedication straight from the heart.
